Competition rules

From the club's official rules. If anything here conflicts with what the Weighmaster tells you, the Weighmaster wins. The committee reserves the right to amend comp formats and rules.

Eligibility

  • No entry to any comp without membership paid up before the comp starts.
  • New Zealand fishing rules and regulations must be observed. Rod and line only.
  • Family membership covers any member of the immediate family permanently living in the same household, including dependents up to the age of 20. From 21, a separate membership is required.
  • A mate of a member can enter one comp per year for $20 (excludes the 4 Grander and the Tokerau Beach away comp).

Juniors

  • The junior category is for anglers 14 years old or under.
  • A junior moves to the Open section on their 15th birthday - unless it falls mid-comp, in which case they fish the junior section for that whole comp. 15-year-olds keep any junior achievements already earned that season for end-of-season trophies.
  • If a junior enters a catch big enough to place in the Open or Women's category, they can't also enter a fish of the same species in the junior section for that comp. The same applies to a woman placing in Open Snapper - no double-dipping into Women's Snapper.

Photo requirements

  • Only photos of fish on the official BBFC measure mat are accepted.
  • The photo must clearly show the jaw touching the stop board and the tail spread to prove length, taken from directly overhead.
  • The comp's identification feature must be in shot. It's given to anglers when the comp starts and validates the catch for that comp.
  • Gutted, gilled, butchered or frozen fish are not permitted.
  • The Weighmaster reserves the right to deduct length or refuse an entry.

Entering

  • Email entries to the Weighmaster at brownsbayfishing@gmail.com during the comp period and before the close time. Only emailed entries are accepted.
  • One fish per email, with the angler's name, species and length in the subject line.
  • Enter as many fish as you like per species - only your single best fish per species is registered.
  • You must be at the Browns Bay Bowling Club during the specified prizegiving time slot to validate your entry. Exception for all-month photo comps: a primary member can enter a family member's catch in the Junior and Women's Snapper sections if that family member can't attend the measure-in. Entering the Open category requires attendance.

Ties

  • In a tie, the prize money goes to the first fish the Weighmaster received by email. Equal-length fish after that drop, in time order, to the next available placing.
  • If there's no placing left, the final placing's prize money is split equally between the tied anglers eligible for it.

Pin fish & season trophies

  • A pin fish is the longest of the season to date - over 75cm for snapper, over 110cm for kingfish - and earns bonus prize money in a standard comp.
  • End-of-season pin prizes: $500 each for the longest snapper and longest kingfish of the season.
  • Pins and trophies are not shared: they go to the angler whose season-best fish reached the Weighmaster first. Pin entries are accepted at every comp, except kingfish during the 4 Grander.
  • End-of-season trophies: Open Snapper, Open Kingfish, Open Trevally, Open Kahawai, Women's Snapper, Junior Snapper, Junior Kahawai, Trifecta, Memorial Snapper, King of the North, and the coveted Angler Fishing Blooper of the Year.
